Platform Issues

1.

2019 Goal: Enhance school protection through our strong partnership with the Elmira City School District and BOCES.

2023 Progress: We were able to accomplish our first goal by expanding our School Resource Officer program by adding retired law enforcement officers to each of the elementary schools within the Elmira City School District as well as added an additional SRO to the BOCES campus.

2.

2019 Goal: Increase the frequency of our firearms safety training classes and expand our hours to help expedite the pistol permit process and better accommodate our 2nd Amendment friends.

2023 Progress: We’ve made significant changes to our Pistol Permit Office but continue to be frustrated by the laws and mandates that continue to come out of Albany making the process more challenging and difficult for individuals interested in pursuing this privilege.  Regardless, we will continue to work hard for our 2nd Amendment friends.

3.

2019 Goal: Enhance our response to the public’s growing need for crime prevention and enforcement through a continued collaboration with our law enforcement partners both within Chemung County as well as outside the county.

2023 Progress: We have and continue to collaborate with our law enforcement partners to address the crime-trends that are prevalent in our community.

4.

2019 Goal: Enhance our drug enforcement efforts through continued public education on heroin, opioid, and other dangerous drugs as well as to assign a full-time investigator to the Drug Enforcement Unit.

2023 Progress: Our drug awareness/education efforts as well as our partnerships continue in an effort to address and reduce the drug issues our community faces.

5.

2019 Goal: Maintain agency professionalism and integrity through continued division accreditation and training to better serve the community.

2023 Progress: We’ve maintained accredited status in each division of the agency that is eligible for that particular type of status.
